— for iPhone & iPad
shrybe on iPhone.
Apple's .shortcut file can only be created inside Shortcuts.app on a real
device — but the setup takes about two minutes and you only do it once. After that,
Share → shrybe → transcript, from any app.
1 Open Shortcuts.app and tap +
Shortcuts is pre-installed on every iPhone and iPad running iOS 13+. On Mac it lives in Applications. Tap the + button in the top-right corner to start a new shortcut.
2 Add these 4 actions in order
- Receive input from Share Sheet Tap "Receive" at the top of the shortcut → enable URLs → set "Where" to Share Sheet. This lets the shortcut appear in every app's Share menu.
- Text — paste exactly this URL:
https://api.shrybe.com/api/shortcut?url=Search for the "Text" action in the action library. - Combine Text Search for the "Combine Text" action. Set the first item to the Text from step 2 above, and the second item to Shortcut Input (the variable picker). Leave separator blank. This builds the full API URL with the shared link appended.
- Get Contents of URL Search for "Get Contents of URL". Set URL to the Combined Text from step 3. Method = GET. This calls the shrybe API and waits for the transcript — expect 20–60 seconds depending on audio length.
- Show Result Search for "Show Result". Input = Contents of URL. iOS displays the transcript in a QuickLook sheet you can copy from.
3 Name it shrybe and save
Tap the shortcut name at the very top of the editor, rename it to shrybe, then tap Done. The name becomes what appears in every app's Share sheet.
4 Try it
Open Safari, find a YouTube video or podcast episode, tap the Share button, scroll down to shrybe and tap it. A progress spinner runs while the audio is downloaded and transcribed — the result sheet appears when it's done. If you'd rather see all three routes side by side first — share sheet, Safari, and what the phone already does on its own — start at transcribing on iPhone. The same thing works in a browser tab from a YouTube link or a podcast episode, if you'd rather not build anything.
Optional: pick the language up front
Insert an Ask for Input action between steps 1 and 2. When the
shortcut runs, it'll ask you to type a language code (uk,
en, es, ja, …). Then change the
Text action in step 2 to:
https://api.shrybe.com/api/shortcut?language=YOUR_INPUT&url=
Replace YOUR_INPUT with the variable from your Ask for Input
action via the variable picker. Without this, Whisper auto-detects the
language — which works well but takes a second or two longer.
What you share with us
The Shortcut sends only the URL you tapped Share on. We download the audio, transcribe it, delete the audio file, and return the text. Same rules as the web tool: 1 of 15 free transcripts per day per IP, no account, no email, no tracking in the API response. Full retention details on the About page.
Built it? Share the link back.
If you've tested your Shortcut and published it to iCloud, email the share URL to hello@shrybe.com — we'll add a one-tap install button at the top of this page so other users can skip the setup.
